Shopping and Errands

Grocery runs, pharmacy and post office trips and package pickups, done for your parent or together with them.

About this service

Errands are where independence often starts to slip quietly. A parent may be managing at home but struggling with crowded stores, heavy bags or parking. Our caregivers can run errands on your parent's behalf, or go with them so they can still choose their own groceries and enjoy getting out of the house.

What’s included

  • Driving to and from grocery stores, pharmacies, post offices, dollar stores and clothing stores
  • Picking up items from a list your parent provides
  • Collecting pre-ordered items, contactless if needed
  • Dropping off and picking up packages
  • Carrying groceries and items into the home
  • Putting things away and helping organize the groceries

When families call us

  • A parent who has stopped driving
  • Heavy bags or long walks through stores
  • A fridge that is often empty
  • Family who live too far away to shop each week

How it works

Book shopping and errands by the hour, starting from a one-hour visit, with no weekly minimum and no long-term contract. One hourly rate covers every Carenami service. Your dedicated Care Captain matches your parent with a background-checked caregiver, keeps the same caregiver on the schedule wherever possible, and adjusts the plan as needs change.

Where we provide shopping and errands

We provide shopping and errands across the Bay Area, including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Fremont, Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, San Mateo, Palo Alto, Mountain View and San Jose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got more questions? Reach out to us at hello@carenami.com to know more.

Can my parent come along?
Yes. Many parents prefer to shop with a caregiver rather than have someone shop for them, and it doubles as an outing.
How are purchases paid for?
Purchases are paid for by your parent or family. Caregivers do not pay for anything out of their own pocket.
Can you pick up prescriptions?
Caregivers can pick up regular prescriptions from the pharmacy. They cannot pick up controlled medications such as opioids, and they do not hand out medications or fill pill boxes.
What errands are not included?
Buying alcohol, tobacco or nicotine products; transporting items too large to fit safely in the caregiver's car; and returns or exchanges that involve payment or disputes.
Can errands be combined with other help?
Yes. One hourly rate covers every service, so a visit can include a grocery run, a simple meal and a little company.
